About The Turtles
The Turtles are an American rock group that was founded in Los Angeles, California, in 1965. “Happy Together” was one of their biggest hits. “It Ain’t Me Babe” (1965), “You Baby” (1966), “She’d Rather Be With Me” (1967), “Elenore” (1968), and “You Showed Me” (1969) are just a few of the top 40 successes they charted.
In the 1970s, singers Kaylan and Volman, known as Flo & Eddie, joined the Mothers of Invention under the names Phlorescent Leech & Eddie due to contractual restrictions. They worked with Frank Zappa and T. Rex, and in 1974, they gained ownership of their Turtles’ master recordings. They also hosted a radio show and recorded for children’s shows in the 1980s. In 1983, they regained the rights to “the Turtles” name and toured as the Turtles Featuring Flo and Eddie. They won a lawsuit against De La Soul for an unauthorized sample in 1989.
Throughout the 1990s, their music was re-released, and they continued performing.
In the 2010s, they participated in the Happy Together tour. Kaylan had health issues in 2018, and Ron Dante filled in for him until 2021.
In the 2020s, Jim Tucker, the original rhythm guitarist, passed away, and the Happy Together tour resumed in 2022 without Kaylan, with Dante performing alongside original member Volman.
